Janice Marilyn Gathman
June 11, 1924 - October 27, 2015
Janice Gathman (maiden name Root), was received into the arms of our Heavenly Father, on October 27, 2015 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 91. Janice is survived by her three sons, Roger and his wife Krista, Greg Gathman and Bruce Gathman, all from the Albuquerque area. Hope and Adam Gathman round out the Albuquerque clan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Col. Walter Gathman, USMC. She is also preceded in death by her four siblings, Harriet Jones, Marjorie Bain, Shirley Reid, and brother "Bub" Root.
Janice was born on June 11, 1924 in New Haven, Connecticut to Emily Bruen Root and Nelson Leroy Root. She graduated secretarial school, and shortly after, met a good looking Marine and Yale student, Walter, who would become her husband. After the birth of two sons, they moved to Albuquerque, NM where Janice found blessed relief from the asthma that troubled her in her earlier years. Greg Gathman, the third boy was born in 1955, and Janice stayed busy homemaking and raising three rowdy sons. Janice is remembered for her patience, making room for all the pets, toys and friends that made up her home. Janice and Walter also made room in their home and hearts when they brought Janice's mother, Emily, to live with the family here in New Mexico. Janice was an active member of the Cosmopolitan Club, and devoted herself to volunteer work. She particularly loved the years she volunteered at UNMH in the gift shop. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness and hospitality. We will miss her very much.
