James "Paul" Whiteman

Paul Whiteman, age 96, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away January 29, 2021.

Paul was born in Cimarron, New Mexico on June 13, 1924 to Clarence Ray and Clara Grace {Brooke} Whiteman. Paul and his future bride, MaudElla Houston, met as young kids growing up in Cimarron.  After graduating from high school, Paul enlisted in the Navy and served aboard a troop transport ship during WWII.  Soon after his discharge, he and MaudElla were married and began their 74-year wedded journey together. They lived in Raton, New Mexico and raised three children, Larry, Lyle and Karen there. Paul was a former member of the Lion’s Club and the Masonic Lodge. He was an accountant for several business and also served as Colfax County Assessor in the 1950’s.  Paul began his career as an administrator with the public school system in Raton and then transferred to Gallup, NM.  He retired from the school system after 27 years of service.

After retiring, they moved to Albuquerque.  Paul enjoyed collecting stamps, painting and gardening.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara Whiteman; his brothers, Charles, Ted and Hugh Whiteman; his grandsons, Michael Whiteman and Andrew Whiteman; and granddaughter, Kristina Faris Dorsey.  He is survived by his wife, MaudElla Whiteman; sons, Larry and wife Brenda Whiteman, Lyle Whiteman; daughter, Karen Durbin; granddaughter, Ronna Faris; grandson, Mark Whiteman; granddaughter, Stacie and husband Jared Sigler; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Zachary Sigler, Madison “Ryan” and Kylee Dorsey.

Paul was lovingly given the nickname Bimbo from his grandchildren as he used to sing the 1950’s hit song “Bimbo” to them as babies.  Good-bye Bimbo.  God bless your sweet soul.
