James Steven Williams

January 26, 1951 — May 25, 2015

James Steven Williams (Steve), 64, was born in Carthage, MO, January 26, 1951. He peacefully passed away May 25, 2015, following a courageous battle with cancer. A long-time resident of the Albuquerque area, Steve attended Highland High School and graduated from the University of New Mexico with dual degrees in Biology and Chemistry. Steve retired from Intel in 2007, after 20 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, earning many trophies he displayed and admired. He was passionate about baseball, football and golf games, especially those of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved music and was a self-taught and accomplished guitarist, spending many hours practicing and learning to play the songs of his favorite musicians: Dylan, Clapton, Rolling Stones and Beatles, to name a few. Steve's family remembers him as loving, adventurous, creative, a critical thinker, determined and persistent, courageous, resilient, reliable, resourceful, witty and humorous, compassionate, with a sense of and appreciation for nature and beauty. He was strong-willed, yet very gentle - a true spirit with a brilliant mind and good heart. He will be missed for his input based on his intellect, knowledge, and ability to recall from memory detailed information on most persons, places, and things. But most of all, he will be missed for his Big Bear Hugs and the protective shield he has been for all of us. He is survived by his sisters, Donna Shriver (Dana) of Albuquerque, NM and Judy Cox (Gene) of Wickenburg, AZ; one niece, Lisa Guthrie (Doug), of Florida, and three nephews, Jeff Cox (Tammy), Carl Cox, of Arizona, and Trey Dollar (Cristy), of Florida. He also leaves behind several great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews, two maternal uncles and many cousins. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, James M. Williams and Hazel B. Chapel. A private memorial service will be held in the near future. FRENCH - Westside 9300 Golf Course Rd. NW (505) 897-0300
