James Nelson Whitney

James Nelson Whitney, age 78, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died June 1, 2014. Son of James E. and LaVonia M. Whitney, he is much loved and missed by daughter, Leslie Wilkie and husband Todd of Edmonds, WA, daughter, Jodie Brannon and husband Nathan of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Jared; his two brothers, Fred and George; and his parents. James was born in Sunrise, WY, attended school there and in Salida, CO, and graduated with an accounting degree from Western State College in Gunnison, CO. He then spent two years in the Army. After an honorable discharge, James worked in Denver, CO for Martin Marietta, for his own insurance inspection business, and then spent 25 years working for Safeway, retiring as an Inventory Control Manager. James moved to Albuquerque in 2003 to spend more time with his grandchildren. Services for James will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014, 10:00 a.m., at Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Drive, NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111.
