James Walton, 81, beloved father and friend (aka: Daddy, Papa, Jim, Jim Pa, Jimbo) passed away peacefully at his home in Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, December 10, 2015. He entered this world on October 13, 1934 in Springfield, MO, born to Homer and Lottie Walton. James served in the Navy from 1952 to 1977, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander with a specialty in EOD. His last assignment in the Navy was as an EOD Instructor at Kirtland Air Force Base. His next career would be with Los Alamos National Laboratory where he began work in 1980 as a Health Protection Technician II. Upon his retirement in 1993, he was working as an Emergency Management Responder and member of the Hazardous Devices Team at LANL. He worked just a couple of more years for SAIC as a Health Environmental Technician contracted to LANL.
In retirement, Jim found enjoyment in a great number of hobbies and interests. These would include, but are not limited to: leather work, Indian jewelry, electronics, photography, music, history and reading. Most recently he had taken up two main hobbies. One was providing food and shelter to stray cats and any other animal that might hop into his yard and the other was helping with the Parkinson's class at Presbyterian Healthplex. Both hobbies were very close to his heart.
Jim would give the shirt off of his back to anyone in need and never ask for anything in return. He was the very definition of a gentleman...loving, caring, generous and kind. He also happened to be the best daddy and friend anyone could pray for. His smile and kind spirit will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
He is survived by his daughter, Elena Herig; her mother, Jesica Frederick; stepdaughters, Karan Thorne and Cyndi Frederick; grandchildren, Tyler Frederick and Riley Thorne; stepson-in-law, Chet Thorne; caregiver (like a son), Jeremy Sharp and also his beloved fur babies Bandit and Cleo, all of Albuquerque, NM.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2015, 3:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Wyoming.
