James (Jim) Ray Walker, 69, of Albuquerque, NM died Sunday January 10, 2016.
He was born to the late William and Thelma Walker on September 18, 1946 in Ashland, KY before relocating to Albuquerque in 1958. Jimmy was a 1965 graduate of Rio Grande High School, served his country bravely in the Air Force including a tour in Vietnam.
He then dedicated his life to public service in law enforcement as an officer with the Albuquerque Police Department, Eddyville, IA Police Department, Mahaska County Iowa Sheriff Department, Iowa Department of corrections and later as a security officer for Albuquerque Public Schools at West Mesa and La Cueva High Schools. Jim touched countless lives over his 69 years on this earth and he will be remembered for his infectious smile, sharp wit, and unparalleled kindness.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Gail; their four children, Eric Walker, Lisa Ortega (husband Steve), Robert Walker (wife Tanya), and Julie Barr (husband Andrew); and Jim's brother, Mike (wife Cynthia); and nephews, Zach and Sam, all of Albuquerque. Jim is also survived by the pride and joy of his life, his six grandchildren, Jackson Barr, Isaiah Ortega, Quintin Barr, Bella Ortega, Roberto Walker, and Presley Barr.
Memorial Services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016, 9:00 a.m., at FRENCH - Lomas.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Jim Walker Foundation, care of La Cueva High School, 7801 Wilshire NE Albuquerque, NM 87122 to support the funding of a new weight room.
