James F Skinner

James Floyd Skinner Jr., 87, born in Morrilton, Arkansas on July 28, 1930, a 60-year resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, September 8, 2017 in Norman, Oklahoma. He is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Etta Frazier Skinner and their son, James Floyd Skinner III.  He is survived by son, Stephen Skinner and wife, Christy of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Stephanie Broderick and husband, Michael of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Haleigh and Mackenzie Skinner, Lauren, Zachary, Michael, Nate Broderick and wife, Jackie, and Matthew and Michael Cordova; great-grandchildren Ben, Ted and Lexi Broderick. He was preceded in death by two sisters and he has five living siblings. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and “Uncle Bo” to numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a proud American and volunteered to serve his country at age 16 shortly after WWII. When the Korean War broke out, he again answered the call of duty when he was drafted to serve. During the war, he served as a Staff Sergeant serving in the Far East Command Headquarters in Japan. Sergeant Skinner proudly served his country and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service by “exhibiting outstanding qualities in coping with problems normally beyond the grasp of a soldier of his age and experience and exhibited an ability to quickly analyze problems and provide sound solutions.”

During his civilian work life, he was always employed in the automotive industry where he utilized his amazing memory and friendly personality as a parts-man, salesman and service technician.

He spent the last six months living at the Veterans Center in Norman, Oklahoma where he made many new friends and enjoyed group outings and being part of a community.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 16, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Should friends desire, please make contributions to a charity of their choice in his memory.
