James Moore

MOORE, JAMES P. REVERENDA lifelong resident of Albuquerque, NM, was called home by his heavenly Father on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. He was born in Albuquerque on November 21, 1928, to Mary Ellen and Otis Moore. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, William, Thomas, Robert, John,Terry and his sister, Mary Elizabeth. Reverend Moore was the youngest of the family, who were all Albuquerque natives. He was a Navy Veteran, serving his country for 2 years in World War II. Reverend Moore later attended the University of New Mexico, receiving degrees in education. He worked in the Albuquerque Public Schools for more than three decades, 17 years as a teacher and 15 years in administration as a library-media specialist, and then as the District Director of Library Media Services. In 1966, he received a federal grant to study for 3 months at the University of Cairo in Egypt. Six years later, Reverend Moore was awarded a Fulbright Grant to study at the University of Delhi in India. Subsequently, he received funding from the West German government for a 2 month study of that nation's instructional television system. In 1983, he received another Fulbright Grant to study in the People's Republic of China. In 1986, Reverend Moore left Albuquerque to attend Mater Dei Seminary for Late Vocations in Spokane, WA, where he received a Master's Degree in Spirituality. He served as deacon at Albuquerque's Immaculate Conception for 10 years, before he was ordained a Priest, by then Archbishop of Santa Fe, Robert Sanchez, in services at St. Francis Cathedral in Santa Fe. Reverend Moore also served on the Archdiocese's Board of Education for six years, on the Board of Catholic Social Services for 2 years and on the Deacon Board of the Archdiocese for 2 years. Once ordained as a priest, Reverend Moore served at St. Bernadette's as an assistant pastor and was then assigned as Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Albuquerque, which was his last assignment. He was responsible for attaining the steel beams from the Twin Towers terrorist attack in New York City on 9/11, which supports the church's bell. Upon his retirement, Reverend Moore assisted all parishes within the diocese, frequently helping them with masses and penance services. He was a frequent guest priest at St. Charles, St. Francis, Holy Family, St. Ann's, Our Lady of Sorrows in Bernalillo and San Jose Mission in Algodones. He enjoyed helping out his brother priest in every capacity, he had a special love for San Jose Mission in Algodones, where the parish members welcomed him with love and special care. He is survived by his loving nephews and nieces, Robert Moore and his wife, Helen, and their family; his niece, Deborah Jones, her husband, John, and their family; his nephew, Joe Gross and his family; and many other loving nieces and nephews. Reverend Moore is also survived by many loving Priests, Deacons, Sisters and Brothers in Christ, along with many dear friends, including Curtis Mark and Tomas Luna. Reverend Moore would have celebrated his 25th Anniversary of Ordination into the Priesthood on June 25th. All of Reverend Moore's services will be held at Sacred Heart Parish in Albuquerque at 309 Stover, downtown. A Rosary will be recited Monday, May 20, 2013, 7:00 p.m., at Sacred Heart Parish, 309 Stover Ave. SW, with Reverend Tim Martinez (former Chancellor) presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, May 21, 2013, 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Parish, with Reverend John Thomas Lane SSS of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament, Highland Heights (Cleveland), Ohio, presiding. Reverend Moore will be laid to rest at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque. Pallbearers will be Robert Moore, Jeremy Chavez, Steve Moore, Joe Gross, William Jackson, and Neri Gutierrez. Honorary pallbearers will be DJ Chavez, Adrian Chavez, Ryan Moore, Christopher Chavez, Nicolas Chavez, Gus Gross and The Knights of Columbus. Friends may visit Sacred Heart one hour prior to rosary.
