James Eugene King

January 22, 1935 — July 20, 2013

Jim was a man of silent strength who showed his love through actions, not words. He was born in Amarillo, TX on January 22, 1935, to James Elbert King and Gladys Bell King. He was welcomed into the arms of our Lord on July 20, 2013. Jim's family lived in various cities in Texas and California before settling in Texico, NM. He graduated from Texico High School, attended Eastern New Mexico University, received his BS in Agricultural Engineering and his MS in Mechanical Engineering at New Mexico State University. He was Proud to be an Aggie. He also served in the United States Army. Jim worked on the White Sands Missile Range in 1961 and 1962. He worked for Kirtland AFB Civil Service from 1962 until 1993 in Special Weapons Design. His specialties were Nuclear Safety Engineering Analyst, GLCM, Small ICBM, Peacekeeper Rail Garrison, Titan, Minuteman, and Nuclear Systems Engineering Directorate. His hobbies were Farm Equipment, "kickin' tires", and racquetball. Jim was a member of the Mountainside Church of Christ, and he devoted his life to God and to serving others. Jim was married to Doyce Wood on January 26, 1964, almost 50 years ago. He is survived by his beloved wife, Doyce; his son, Denny and wife Melissa King of Albuquerque; daughters, Alisha and husband David Fitzgerald of Albuquerque and Tara and husband Vic McCracken of Abilene, TX. He was one of the world's top ten Granddads to Christian and Mason Fitzgerald and Theo, Naomi, and Gabe McCracken. He is also survived by his brother Jerry and his wife Golda King; sister-in-law, Sylvia King; brothers-in-law, Woodie, Deryl, and Jerry and his wife Pat; and loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Ron. Friends may visit Tuesday, July 23, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Wyoming. Services will be held Wednesday, July 24, at 10:30 a.m. at Mountainside Church of Christ, 12300 Indian School Rd. NE. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UNM Christian Student Center where Jim and Doyce met and fell in love, 130 Girard Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87106, or to the Albuquerque Christian Children's Home, 5700 Winter Haven NW, Albuquerque, NM 87120.
