Husband to Donni Davis; father to Kevin (deceased), Randy, Allen, and Christi; grandfather to Elycia, Dominique, Kevin, and Charlie; and great-grandfather to Asher. James (Jim) C. Davis passed away on Monday, October 31, 2022 of complications from Parkinson's disease.
Jim moved to Albuquerque as a child with his family and never left, spending most of his life in the South Valley. Here he built his homestead and raised his family. Jim started with PNM in the early 50's and retired in 1987. He then went on to enjoy a second career working with restaurateur Tom Willis, owner of 66 Diner, helping him keep his many food ventures going. Work was secondary though as he spent every weekend he could with his family at the lake, the woods, or on road trips to Disneyland. Ever the passionate sportsman, Jim taught half of New Mexico to ski at Elephant Butte.
Jim passed his work ethic on to his children and grandchildren as all have gone onto successful, diverse lives with amazing families. His values of inclusion, understanding, and helping those in need are commonly practiced by everyone in his circle.
Jim was a friend to everyone and even as Albuquerque grew you would be hard pressed to find someone that didn't know or like him. His 4th of July parties were legendary and often shut down the entire neighborhood. He was always ready to hand you a beer or a meal and never turned down anyone that needed a hand.
Jim was fortunate to meet his true love, Donni, early in his life when in 1957 she fell off a horse and he helped her back up. They were married two years later and were together for one week shy of 63 years. Together they worked hard to raise their family. Still the couple always made time to have fun, whether it was racing cars, square-dancing, camping, or traveling to Las Vegas where they would draw crowds to watch them jitter-bug and make lifelong friends from around the world, with their closest companions.
Per Jim's wishes there will be no ceremony; and in lieu of flowers or gifts. please make donations to Sunflower Sanctuary Animal Rescue. www.sunflowersanctuarry.org.
