James Robert Howell

James Robert Howell of Albuquerque, NM passed away at age 78 on Wednesday, February 15, 2023. A lifelong patriot, Jim began his decorated 27-year Naval career by enlisting on his 18th birthday. In his career, Jim was most proud to be a "Mustang," having left service as an enlisted sailor to pursue education before returning to the Navy as an officer, climbing to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Jim had over nine years Sea Service on many vessels, notably Diesel Boats, Destroyers and Nuclear Submarines. After retiring from the Navy, he spent his time pursuing interests and spending time with his loved ones. His many hobbies included volunteerism, woodworking, reading, gardening, and metal detecting. Throughout Jim's life, he was a natural problem solver and a man of action. Jim is preceded in death by his son Stacy; and is survived by his loving wife, Kristin Pilling; his son, Shawn; daughter-in-law, Betty Jo, four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many in-laws and friends whom he held dear.

A memorial service will take place at 5:00pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at FRENCH-Wyoming.
