James Dlouhy

July 11, 1970 — October 31, 2024

James E. Dlouhy, Jr. - Beloved son, nephew, cousin, and friend, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. He died on one of his favorite nights, Halloween. He was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. Jim loved his family and his friends, and will be missed by all. Jim was 54. He is proceeded in death by his dad, James E. Dlouhy, Sr.; his grandparents, Ed and Elsie Dlouhy, William L. and Vera Barlow, he lost two aunts to cancer; Denise Lenenschmidt and Marilyn Strones. Jim is survived by his mom, Elizabeth Lynn Dlouhy. His uncle, Bill (Shirley) Barlow, his aunt, Nancy (Al) Johnson; cousins, Kim Irey, Cindi (Chris) Clark, Lynn (Eric) Troast, Maile (David) Ruggles, Pam (Steve) Hansen, and many additional cousins, and dear friend, Clara.

Jim joined the Navy at a very young age, he worked hard to be a Submariner. The Navy allowed him to see Europe and travel the world. After he got out of the Navy he worked at Laser Technics, and Intel. These experiences gave him many opportunities to travel throughout the country. When he left Intel he was ready to be a chef, but life took him in a different direction. For the last 16 years Jim has served God by serving his church, St. John XXIII Catholic Community. He worked up until very close to his last days.

Jim loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, boating and camping with his uncles, and all his friends! Cooking special meals for his family and friends was another love Jim had! Outdoor activities were always a great opportunity to cook gourmet meals, it was never simple grub for Jim! Sushi parties were a great time to get together and celebrate! Planning the events was more than half the fun for him! Jim love to read! His collection of books covered his love for God and a desire to learn all he could about his Catholic Faith. He had an array of books about history, stories of adventures and mysteries. He dabbled in creating his own fictions, his number one rule was: "don't let the truth get in the way of a good story"! He brewed his own beer and he loved oil painting. He had a curious nature, researching and learning things about everything he could, energized him!

His mother would like to express her most sincere appreciation to all who helped Jim in so many ways, during his long suffering battle of cancer; his cousins: Cindi, Chris, Maile, and Liam; his friends: Fr. Tai Pham, Clara Maestas, Cathy Lowther, Brenda Claire & Tim Lowther, Tony Frelund, Wade Westerfeld, and Dan Garcia; the CORUS HOSPICE NURSE: Katrina, and all the other nurses who checked on him. To those who stayed with him the last couple of months; cared and watched over him 24/7 so that he was not alone. They all gave Jim comfort, and peace of mind during what at many times was the most agonizing pain.

His honorary pallbearers are Bill Barlow, Al (Pine) Johnson, David Ruggles, Chris Clark, Liam Ruggles, Tony Frelund, Wade Westerfeld, and Dan Garcia.

Jim's mother wanted to share closing thoughts: "My Son loved playing jokes on anyone, he learned from his grandfather and father. If my son could have left a message it would go like this; If you think something is wrong with your body, don't wait, man, woman or child seek help! Don't put your family and friends through the pain and death I suffered. Always, always ask God for His help, it is important!"
