James L. Desilets, age 93, went peacefully in his sleep to join his Lord on March 29, 2016.
As a young man he left college to join the Army during World War II. His deep faith carried him through anxious times. After discharge he resumed his studies at the Colorado School of Mines. While there he met and married Barbara, his wife of 70 years. They moved from Denver to Los Alamos in 1951 where he was employed as a Construction Project Manager. There he lived and raised four beautiful daughters. His love of athletics led him to a career as a high school sports official for 30 years. In 1987, he was inducted into the New Mexico Officials Hall of Fame. Jim also loved playing bridge and golf. He enjoyed his yard and his fish pond. He was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church and served as a communion minister for many years.
James is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Desilets; four daughters, Michele, Terry, DeDe, and Nan; grandchildren, Tracy, James, Stephanie, Brian, Julie, Jason, and LeeAnn; 12 great grandchildren; and his brother, Richard. He was predeceased by his mother, father, two sisters, and his granddaughter. Cremation preceded a private family memorial service with interment to follow in Santa Fe at a later date. Thank you for the love and care provided by Heartland Hospice and a special thank you to Gertrude Tafoya. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to Casa Angelica or a charity of your choice.
