James Edwin Cook

January 5, 1954 — December 18, 2023

James E. Cook passed away peacefully on December 18, 2023 after a brief but intense battle with ALS. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a kind friend. He had a quick wit and enjoyed a good laugh.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sondra; his daughter Sara Ashlea Allen, her husband, Elton, and his grandson, Jayden; his step-daughter Acacia Bachman and her husband, Kyle. He is also survived by his sisters Carolyn Wheeland and Diane Larson and her husband, Lucky. Jim expressed great pride in his extended family of nieces, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marilyn Cook, and his son, James "Robbie" Cook.

Jim made a career and a lifelong hobby of working on small electronics and enjoyed restoring old radio equipment in his retirement. He was a skilled Morse code (CW) operator and was especially interested in railroad history. He also loved live music, long bike rides, and hiking his dogs with his wife in the Sandia foothills.

A memorial for Jim will be planned in the spring when he will be returned to the mountains he loved. Donations in his name may be made to LapDog Rescue of New Mexico or the New Mexico ALS Society.
