James (Jim) Burkhardt

James (Jim) Ray Burkhardt passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Sunday, April 14, 2024, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was 88.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela C. Burkhardt, to whom he was married for 67 years; his daughter, Leah Burkhardt; his son, Daniel Burkhardt and daughter-in-law, Tina Burkhardt; his daughter, Molly Malizzo and son-in-law, Frank Malizzo; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ruby Burkhardt, and his brother, Ron Burkhardt.

Jim was born in Greenup, Kentucky on September 2, 1935. The Railroad brought his family to New Mexico where he lived in Bayard and then Albuquerque. A Bulldog through and through, he graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1953. While still in high school, Jim began working for the Albuquerque Publishing Company where he served for 46 years.

Jim was an avid sports fan, both watching and playing. He and Pam met on a set up by Jim's brother, Ron, 70 years ago on the tennis courts near the Albuquerque Bio Park. Racquetball and golf were a passion throughout his life. He enjoyed music of all sorts, traveling, and crossword puzzles. A faithful Lobo fan, he cheered for the cherry and silver basketball and football teams. He was an audiophile who loved quality music in his home.

Jim loved his wife and his family. He leaves them a legacy of the value of hard work, the appreciation of music, the gift of "Burkhardt" humor, and the endurance of dedication to family. He will be greatly missed.

A public viewing will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - University. Memorial services for Jim will be on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, 10:00 a.m., at FRENCH - University. His interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
