James E. Brevig Sr.

James Edward Brevig Sr., 73, a resident of Rio Rancho passed on to be with his Holy Father on Friday, April 26, 2019. James was born on Wednesday, February 27, 1946, the son of Rachel Rounsville and Edwin Brevig in Minneapolis, MN. He is survived by his two daughters, Leslie McGuire and her husband, Tom of Redwood City, CA and Melissa Brevig of Visalia, CA; one son, James Brevig Jr. and his wife, Nichol of Rio Rancho; six grandchildren, Ryan McGuire, Kyle McGuire, Tyler McGuire, James Brevig III, Jacob Brevig, and Joshua Brevig; nieces, Tammy Castro and Bonnie Castro; nephew, John Castro III; sister-in-law, Dorothy Sanchez and her husband, John; cousin, Gary Brevig and his wife, Julie; and lifelong friend, Bill Smart and his wife, Bonnie.

James grew up and went to school in Elbow Lake, MN. James was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Navy from 1963 – 1967. James belonged to the Almarausch German dance group out of Alameda, CA and performed at many places including Disneyland and the San Francisco 49ers game. He was a long-time member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed many hobbies to include hunting, fishing, gardening, and wood carving. He spent many years in management of hardware and lumber stores, as well as property management supervisor of numerous properties. He spent 11 years as a police officer with the Clayton/Pittsburg, CA police departments. He loved animals, especially his two dogs Buck and Flash.

Funeral services will take place in San Diego, CA at the Miramar National Cemetery with full military honors. .
