Age 81, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 6, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father, N. Harmon Black and mother, Ruth Black. Jim was an Albuquerque native, attended Albuquerque High and served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. He graduated from Texas Western (UTEP) in El Paso and worked for Aetna Life and Casualty for 31 years before retiring to Taos, NM. In his younger years he loved to play basketball, fish, play tennis and has always enjoyed the game of football. Buddy, his loyal dog, was his constant bedside companion throughout his illness. He was a loving and generous husband and father who kept his amazing sense of humor to the very end. Jim's family would like to thank the Alzheimer's Association, especially Barbara. We also greatly appreciate Presbyterian Hospice and their wonderful care of Jim, particularly Angela, Brandi, Therese and Dr. Vining. Most of all we want to thank Emily (our God sent angel) for her loving care of Jim and Eleanor the past few weeks. A private family memorial service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers our family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer's Association of NM (9500 Montgomery Blvd NE #121, Albuquerque, NM 87111), Presbyterian Hospice (8100 Constitution Place NE, Suite 400, Albuquerque, NM 87110) or the Animal Humane of New Mexico (615 Virginia St SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108).
