James Wesley Aubrey, Jr. (Jim)
James Wesley Aubrey, Jr. (Jim) passed away on December 25, 2020 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Jim was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado to James W. Aubrey, Sr. and Pearl Aubrey, on December 8, 1930. He graduated from Grand Junction High in 1949 and went on to earn a degree at Mesa Jr. College. He continued his education at University of Northern Colorado and graduated in 1953 with a BS in Math and a minor in Chemistry.
In his youth, Jim was a proud paper boy for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. While employed at the Atomic Energy Commission he received a letter from President Eisenhower asking him to please continue to serve as a mathematician for the Civil Service. Upon being hired as such, the family moved to Holloman AFB in New Mexico. From there the family transferred to Albuquerque where Jim was employed by the Air Force Weapons Lab. He retired from the Air Force Weapons Lab after over 30 years of distinguished service.
Jim first saw the love of his life, Donna Jackson, at the Lincoln Pool in Grand Junction, Colorado during their high school years. A first date quickly followed, and the rest is history! They married December 28, 1952 and went on to raise a close, loving family who share countless happy memories.
Jim was a golf enthusiast and master fly fisherman. He shared his passion for fly fishing and fly tying with students from Bayfield, Colorado and taught fly tying classes at Vermejo, New Mexico. He was also well known for teaching at fly fishing conclaves across the western United States.
Jim was an active member at St. John's United Methodist in Albuquerque and Summit Church in Durango, Colorado serving in serval leadership positions at both churches. He served as president of NM Trout, was an active participant in Promise Keepers, and an enthusiastic chaperone for the Girl Scouts. But above all he led many others to know the Lord.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife Donna, of Albuquerque. He is also survived by his son, Robert Dean and wife Shari; daughters Melissa Demas and husband Chris, Jill Aubrey and husband Kirk Anderson and Tammy Johnson; grandchildren Lucas, Aaron, and David Aubrey, Croft and Aubrey Fite, and Ty and Cara Johnson; great grandchildren Ethan, Ezra, Aaron, Evelyn Aubrey, and Milo Fite. He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Pearl Aubrey; sisters Bette Mealy and Hollis Fink; and his son-in-law David Johnson.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to your favorite charity. The family wishes to thank those who provided loving care at Watermark, as well as the medical staff at Lovelace Hospital where his family was allowed to surround him with prayers, singing, and great love.
A service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church on January 5, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Lyle Reece officiating. COVID regulations will be adhered to. He will be interred in Durango, Colorado.
