Jake D. Barboa

Jacob D. Barboa, “Jake” died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 in Albuquerque, NM at the age of 82.

Jake is survived by his wife, Marion Barboa; children, Arlette Reynolds and husband, Buddy Reynolds, and Lynnette Barboa and husband, Paul Rusnock. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Laurette Leigh Barboa. He is also survived by grandchildren, Bailey Laukhuff and husband, Chad Laukhuff, and Loralee Reynolds. He leaves family members, Mel Sedillo, Francis Ray, Marie Sedillo, Paul Sedillo, Juanita Dunlap, Kathy Duffy, Nick Meeks, and George Meeks.

Jake was born on December 18, 1934 in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and then New Mexico State University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science from the Department of Agriculture. He married Marion Bombach in 1960 in Las Cruces, NM and raised three daughters working and moving across New Mexico. In 1968 Jake and family settled in his home community of Pajarito.

Jake was a humble accomplished man who cared deeply for his wife, daughters, and extended family. He was a cowboy, a farmer, a passionate gardener, and he had an especially keen eye for livestock. Jake was an active participant and supporter of local 4-H clubs. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and love for horses with his family at Quarter Horse events. He loved good farmland, horse racing, golfing with friends, basketball, and rodeo.

A Rosary will be Sunday, April 30, 2017, 6:00 p.m. at St. Augustine Catholic Church at Isleta Pueblo. The Funeral will follow on Monday, May 1, 2017, 11 a.m. also at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 71 Tribal Rd 35. Father George will officiate the ceremony. Burial will follow at Pajarito Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cowboys for Cancer Research, www.c4cr.com, and Alta Mira Specialized Family Services, www.altamiranm.org. The family would like to thank High Desert Hospice for their excellent care of Jake. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jake’s life.
