Born on January 26, 1944 and passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on September 5, 2014 at the age of 70. Jaime grew up in Deming, NM and joined the Army after graduation. He received training in telecommunications while in the Army, an emerging field in the 1960's. His wise choice eventually led to his career with the Mountain States Telephone & Telegraph. He worked for the phone company in Las Cruces and Albuquerque, even being selected to work in Puerto Rico in 1977. He retired from U.S. West in 1990 and began his "second career" by becoming a licensed contractor and starting his own company, Associated Properties Construction. He thoroughly enjoyed owning his own business and served as a mentor to his employees and fellow contractors, priding himself on hard work and honesty. Some of the projects he was most proud of include the skateboard park, outdoor amphitheater and baptismal fountains at Calvary Chapel, municipal pump houses in Los Lunas and Grants, commercial retaining walls throughout Albuquerque, and building the Highland Lofts. Although he took pride in his larger projects, he also helped remodel numerous homes, including homes for his daughters and several for him and his wife (most recently completely remodeling their second home in Ruidoso, NM). While being a contractor kept him busy, Jaime also owned Plaza Del Sol Apartments for over 15 years. Both he and his wife moved from their home to become on-site property managers. Many of their tenants developed close friendships while living at the apartments and have kept in touch and even visit when back in town. They were considered "surrogate family" to countless individuals. He also enjoyed playing pool, golf, and traveling with his family. He was a man of few words, but his kindness and generosity are traits he exemplified and sets the bar for others to emulate. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia; daughters, Patricia (Patty) Galindo and husband, Sam Slimp, Lorena Rodriguez, and husband, George; three grandsons who were the light of his life, Alex Galindo, and Logan and Dylan Slimp. He is also survived by his sisters, Irma Valverde and Ernestina Kimball, and their families. He will also be greatly missed by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Visitation will begin on Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas followed by Rosary at 4:00 p.m. The family will be available for fellowship and support following the Rosary. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish, 2621 Vermont St. NE. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
