Jacolin “Jackie” Blackburn (née Nichols) died peacefully in her home on November 13, 2018 in Albuquerque at the age of 73.
Jackie is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Schweda-Webb of Albuquerque; her granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth Webb, grandson Barrett William Webb, both of Albuquerque, nephew Robert T. Nichols of Long Beach, California, and nephew, Ryan Nichols of Reno, Nevada. She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Blackburn, of Murray, Utah, and her brother, Dr. Robert Nichols of Reno, Nevada, and sister, Sheila Nichols of Lawrence, Kansas.
Jacolin was born on September 14, 1945 in Lawrence, Kansas to William Taft Nichols and Martha Trosper Nichols. She had a bachelor’s in Business Administration. Throughout her life, she lived in Chicago, New Orleans, Salt Lake City, and settled in Albuquerque. She retired from Sandia National Laboratories in 2007.
Jackie loved the blue skies and sunshine of Albuquerque. She loved golf and spending time with her grandchildren. She volunteered at the local libraries and with children who needed assistance in reading. She was generous with her time and dedicated to helping others.
Jackie lived for over 50 years of her life with type 1 diabetes and its many complications. She dealt with her illness with strength and grace and never complained. She spent the last 10 years of her life in varying degrees of health crises. She remained remarkably resilient and positive until her final days.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 10000 Spain Road NE, Albuquerque, NM 87111. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Jackie’s life.
