Age 69, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013. A third generation New Mexican, Jake was born in Albuquerque on May 21, 1944, the son of Mr. Jacob E. Young and Mrs. Ruby Young and graduated from Highland High School in 1962. Jake met his wife, Barbara while both were students at HHS. He first gained Barbara's attention by pulling her hair in history class then used his considerable charm to win her affection. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends. Following graduation Jake worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 30 years, retiring in 1994. Most recently, he kept busy with his own maintenance business. Jake loved God, his family, his country, and his animals. He could always make you laugh. He and Barbara recently vacationed in the Pacific Northwest, enjoying the natural splendor of the area. Survivors include his wife, Barbara; son, Steven Young and wife, Kelly; daughter, Lisa Young Lemelin and husband, Ron Lemelin; granddaughters, Megan, Cari and Cami Young and grandson, Jack Lemelin. A Visitation will be held Friday, October 25, 2013, 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 26, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale Blvd S.E. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Humane Association of New Mexico, .
