Jacob Lewis Cohen

d. November 8, 2017

Being born in Santa Fe, Jake has the blessing of living his 37-year life among such gracious people, with all the natural beauty under open blue skies with snowcapped mountains.  His greatest joy was skiing with his loving sister Mariko. Jake and his mother Kiyoko especially loved to eat sushi. Jake and his father shared the gift of unstoppable, overwhelming laughter, often only continuing the laughing at laughing itself. Jake was the 1998 co-athlete of the year at Santa Fe High School for his accomplishments as a Demon football running back and as a New Mexico State Meet pole vault medalist for three consecutive years. Jake felt it was and honor and privilege to have received an appointment to the US Naval Academy at Annapolis although he decided he wanted to live in his beloved New Mexico. Jake transferred to the University of New Mexico on Presidential Scholarship and received his business degree. Jake also felt that it was an honor and privilege to be a track and field coach at Santa Fe High School especially with the head coach Peter Graham and the pole vault coach Steve Rivera.  Jake became a NMAA and NMOA High School Football and Track and Field Official.  Jake was the Starter for many track and field meets in the Santa Fe.  He officiated the 2015 NMAA Quad 3 football championship. Jake’s love of fine dining guided his career as a restauranteur. Jake enjoyed managing banquets, catering, community events, restaurants, night clubs, bartending, staff development and marketing.  Jake was always mindful about creating respectful and enjoyable experiences for customers, staff, distributors, owners and the community.

Please visit Jake’s nicho at the Rivera Family Memorial Gardens in Santa Fe and at the Lobo Garden at Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque and at the Shingonshu Temple in Satsuma Sendai, Japan.  Jake’s cousin who is a Buddhist priest chants the ritual memorial prayers there.
