Jack Carlson

d. March 3, 2017

On March 3, 2017, Jack Carlson, age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by his devoted family after a long illness. Jack was born in Muskegon, MI and moved to New Mexico in 1949.
He was a very accomplished man in many ways. In business, he started as a dry-wall laborer and worked his way into forming his own business called Western Dry-Wall. His business expanded into Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas where he employed an average of 200 employees. As a private pilot who owned his own plane; in 1963 he delivered the first polio vaccines to 5 of our New Mexican southern cities. As a Christian, he attended First Bilingual Fruit Avenue Baptist Church for 50 years where his gift of a servant heart was used in many ways. After his 1987 retirement, he and his wife, Betty, loved spending time on their houseboat at Navajo Lake, RVing with friends and golfing with his buddies.
His greatest accomplishment was the way he loved and saw the best in people. Jack always mentored, inspired, listened to and gave a "leg-up" to those he spent time with. When people speak of Jack, there is always a common theme - He was "the most honorable and kind man" they have ever encountered. His impact ran deep and wide. As the patriarch of our family, it is impossible to put into words how he has helped us, nurtured us, loved us through the good times and the bad times. He was only a phone call away. Once we heard his voice, we knew we were going to be OK. His calm assurance and wisdom sustained us.
The plaque over his desk states this: "All men who have achieved great things have been men of fairness." He did that well.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and his granddaughter, Kendra.
Jack is survived by his son, Steve Carlson and wife, Barbara; daughter, Linda Griggs and husband, Billie; his 6 loving grandchildren and their spouses; 19 precious great-grandchildren; 1 sister; and 3 brothers.
