Jack Bartberger, age 74, passed away on June 28, 2021, with his wife Jan by his side. All his girls also had a chance to say goodbye. Jack was known by all for his smile, sense of humor and infectious laugh. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 5, 1947, he was the youngest of two children born to Mary Emma & Edward Bartberger. He had an older sister Janet who drove him crazy. They became very close as they grew to adulthood.
Jack graduated from Brentwood High School then went on to Penn State to study engineering. He moved to Albuquerque to accept a position at Sandia National Laboratories. During his 37+ years there he traveled to many Sandia sites in the US, taught a class in South America, and even went twice to Chernobyl.
He was an avid cyclist, biking to and from work daily, rain or shine for most of his career at Sandia. Jack loved anything with wheels including his motorcycles, the MG Midget he restored, and the camper van that he and Jan used routinely to escape to adventures near and far. They camped a lot locally (Jemez, Cochiti, and northern NM) and as far away as Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse, enjoying Rocky Mt National Park and Estes along the way. They also camped their way to Florida once to visit family.
He loved music of all kinds and was also an amazing artist. For many years he played harmonica and sang back-up vocals in several local bands, including some of the more recent Twisted Mojo and Kasey and the Remnants.
Animals were also a huge part of Jack’s life and heart, they were all “family” to him: Carly and Tessa, favorite dogs, and cats Sashe, Piper, Buddy and Daisy.
Jack is survived by the love of his life, his wife Jan. They met at their 35th high school reunion in Pittsburgh where Jan was still living at the time. The two of them connected instantly and married soon thereafter. They recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. For the last 3 ½ years Jan cared for Jack, tirelessly and lovingly with total dedication to his well-being.
Jack is also survived by his 3 loving daughters, Tricia Babb, Lisa Lee (both currently residing in Florida) and youngest daughter Jodi Perea who resides in Albuquerque. Also surviving Jack are two grandchildren Tyler and Megan Romesberg, his sister Janet Wilson, nephew Scott Wilson and niece Sue Lieberum.
