Isabel (Liz) Mascarenas, age 84, lost her battle with pancreatic cancer May 7, 2018. She died peacefully in the hospital, surrounded by loving family.
Isabel was born June 1, 1933 and raised in Santa Fe, NM until she met and married her husband of 50 years, Henry D. Mascarenas. Serving as a military spouse, they lived in different places raising their two girls. Albuquerque was her last place of residence. Here, they adopted and raised two grandchildren. Liz was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and matriarch. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her children, Jeannie Hundley, Ruby Vallejos and husband, Bowen, Loretta Mascarenas and Bryant Mascarenas; five grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter named “Isabel”; sisters, Florida, Helen and Joann; plus other family and friends. Liz was preceded in death by her husband, David; her parents, Filiberto Garcia, Maria Segura and Jose Segura; brothers; sisters; and one great-granddaughter, her namesake, Isabel.
A Rosary will be recited Wednesday, May 16, 2018, 6:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 17, 2018, 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church at Lomas and Tennessee. Burial will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.
