Isaac Sullivan-Leshin was a devoted son, grandson, nephew, and the most loyal friend you could have. He left this world suddenly at age 34 in his hometown of Albuquerque, NM, leaving an unfillable void for his loving family, wide circle of friends, and colleagues.
Kind, gentle, curious and opinionated, Isaac was always willing to help.
Isaac was an accomplished cook and avid outdoorsman and river rafter. He was a river guide on the Green and Colorado Rivers, both in Cataract Canyon in Canyonlands National Park out of Moab, UT and in the Grand Canyon National Park out of Flagstaff, AZ. He was Wilderness EMT certified and known by many as an amazing and knowledgeable hiking and adventure companion, always prepared for any situation or opportunity to enjoy the outdoors,
An incredible advocate with a passion for law, justice, and business, Isaac was able to cite law casework from memory, with special interests in environmental law, water policy and politics, social entrepreneurship and drug reform. He studied these topics in depth at the University of New Mexico and Prescott College where he received his B.A. in Cultural and Regional Studies with a major in Social Justice in Law and Business and a minor in Environmental Studies.
Isaac was a lifelong learner and avid reader with deep interest in natural history, adventure education, environmental and social justice, technology, telecommunications, beer brewing, and subjects too numerous to name. Isaac worked as a paralegal for the New Mexico Public Regulations Commission, and was actively pursuing a degree in Geographic Information Systems at Central New Mexico Community College.
Isaac also had tremendous enthusiasm for movies and music, and attended an impressive number of live concerts and music festivals in his lifetime. He was always willing to drop everything and travel if asked to join a friend for a concert or if one of his favorite bands was playing in reasonable proximity.
Isaac is survived by his mother, Eileen Sullivan, father, Larry Leshin, and step-father, Patrick Lyford; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; a raft of devoted friends, and his beloved miniature pinscher, Lola.
A service celebrating Isaac's life will take place in July, with details to come.
Contributions in memory of Isaac can be made to the Friends of the Rio Grande Nature Center or Outward Bound , which both had formative impact on Isaac's life and love of the outdoors.
