Colonel Isaac A. Alvarado (Ret.) ("Ike") Jr., age 76, dedicated husband, father, son and brother, passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2015. Ike was known for his dedication to his family, generosity to others, and love of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. He is survived by his wife, Eva Alvarado; his children Bruce Alvarado, Regina Alvarado-Nau and husband, Travis, Jamie Rickman and husband, Larry "Rick", and his granddaughters Briana and partner, Nick, Victoria, Tyana, Kori and Shai. He is also survived by his sisters, Patsy Ulibarri and Thelma Martinez; and mother-in-law Esperanza Ontiveros. He was preceded in death by his parents Isaac A. Alvarado Sr. and Margaret Alvarado; his brother Gerald H. Alvarado; his sister Lydia Alvarado; father-in-law Luis Ontiveros; and brothers-in-law Joe Ulibarri and Faustine Martinez. Ike was born in 1939 in Pastura, New Mexico to Isaac A. Alvarado Sr. and Margaret Alvarado. At age 17 he joined the United States Army National Guard and served one tour in Vietnam as a Company Commander. During his tour he earned the Bronze Star. Upon returning from Vietnam, he was stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX where he met his wife Eva. Ike graduated from the University of Albuquerque with a Bachelor's of Administration. After coming off active duty he returned to the National Guard. During his career with the National Guard he held numerous positions from Company Commander, Staff Officer positions, Battalion Commander and several positions within the United Stated Property and Fiscal Office. As his final position with the National Guard, he was selected by the Adjutant General of New Mexico to become the United States Property and Fiscal Officer for the State of New Mexico which was an active duty position. He held this position for the final 10 years of his career until he retired in January 1999. A Rosary will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas Chapel. A Mass will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church located at 5311 Phoenix Ave. NE. Interment will follow at 2:15 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM, 501 N. Guadalupe St. 87501.
