Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Irene S. Martinez, 81 years old, of Trujillo, NM went to join our Heavenly Father on January 25, 2021, in the arms of her beloved family.
Irene was born in Devine, Colorado on May 4, 1939 to the union of Rumaldo and Facunda Gonzales. She was a pillar of strength up until her last breath. On the night of January 25, 2021, she was reunited with her husband Ben, as they will now celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary on February 15th together in Heaven. It had been 7 long years since she had seen his smirk and felt his arms around her. Our hearts are broken as we have to say goodbye for now, but we know that her heart is once again complete.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin Martinez; parents, Rumaldo and Facunda Gonzales; brother, Manuel Gonzales; sister, Ernestina Gonzales; father and mother-in-law, Manuel and Isabel Martinez; brothers- in-law, Isidro Pacheco and Clovis Pacheco; and her beloved pet and companion of 19 years, Gizzy.
She is survived by her children, Elaine Martinez of Peralta, Benjie Martinez (Angie) of Trujillo, Diane Martinez-Cash (Dan) of Rio Rancho, Antonette Martinez-Carrillo of Las Cruces and Hope Martinez of Peralta. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jeramiah Martinez (Karlene), Amberly Martinez, Marie Miera, Dakota and Payson Carrillo, Thomas, and Andres Sanchez. Irene’s sisters, Dora Pacheco, Mary Martinez (Larry), Stella Valdez (Melvin), Adeline Gonzales-Gettler (Ernest), Christine Hernandez (Tony), Mary Ellen Rojas (Alvin), Betty Mascarenas (Johnny), Flora Lujan (Erwin); Sister-in-Law, Ruby Gonzales. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law, Henry Martinez (Angie), Ted Martinez (Dina); Sisters-in-law, Eloisa Pacheco, Lucille Casaus (Billy), and Virginia Aragon (Margarito). Her Nina, Theresa Trujillo and by many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral mass will be celebrated by Father Rob Yaksich at 9:30 am on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited to 100 and masks must be worn. The funeral mass will be live streamed at

as well as Facebook live at OLOS LV. The burial will follow the mass at the San Isidro Cemetery in Trujillo, NM, committal service by Deacon Reyes Sanchez.
Serving as pallbearers will be Benjie Martinez, Jeramiah Martinez, Thomas Sanchez, Andres Sanchez, Elmer Pacheco, and Melvin Valdez. Honorary pallbearer will be Dan Cash.
We would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Presbyterian Rust Hospital that provided stellar care and support to our Mother during her dire time of need.
