Irene Sanchez, age 91; a long-time resident of Old Town Albuquerque, passed away peacefully at her home on August 24, 2024.
She was surrounded by her daughters, Regina, Jeannette, and Carol; her goddaughter, Irene; and beloved dog, Rosie.
Irene was born in Cerro, New Mexico, March 16,1933 to Abedenago Segura and Eloisa Tafoya Segura. She was the youngest of five sisters. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Irene was an amazing cook (known for her "famous" RED chile), as well as a wonderful baker and seamstress. She loved to play the piano and sing and had a song for every occasion.
She is survived by her daughters, Regina, Jeannette, and Carol Sanchez; sisters, Ida Martinez and Marian Martinez; as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Sanchez; sisters, Amanda Selph and Angela Williams; and her parents, Abedenago and Eloisa Segura.
She will be greatly missed by all.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at San Felipe de Neri Church in Old Town. A viewing will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. rosary and 10:30 a.m. mass. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary cemetery at 12:00 p.m. A reception and celebration of her life will follow at her home in Old Town.
