Irene Morris (Gotti), 88, died peacefully just five hours short of her 89th birthday on May 9, 2015. She was born in Las Vegas, NM to Dewey and Martina McElroy on May 10, 1926. She is survived by her current husband, George Morris; and her three children and their families, Phyllis Floyd (husband Eric Nelson), Patrina Percy (husband Mark) and Paul Gotti (wife Stacy); and four grandchildren, Nick Floyd (wife Lauren), Kendra Steffensen (husband Tim), Allison Sedore (husband Mark) and Carlee Gotti; and two great-granddaughters, Alice and Matilda Floyd. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 61 years, Richard 'Dick" Gotti. Irene grew up in Las Vegas, New Mexico and then spent her last few years of high school in California. The family then returned to Las Vegas where she met her first husband Dick. Dick and Irene moved to Los Alamos in 1951 when Dick took a job as an accountant at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and Irene was a secretary. Although she took a break from work to raise her three children, she returned to LANL later to be the manager of the LANL Secretarial Pool. She and Dick retired to Albuquerque in 1997 to be closer to their children. After Dick passed in 2007, she met George Morris at the Senior Center where they began ballroom dancing, an activity that both really enjoyed. Irene and George married in 2012 and enjoyed two and half years of companionship despite her ongoing battle with dementia.
