Irene Riley Anderson

ANDERSON, IRENE RILEY Irene passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 17, 2013. She was born in a dugout, on a homestead in southwestern Kansas on March 18, 1912 to George Parker Riley and Ethel Robinson Riley. Irene grew up working hard on the ranch then married and went to Louisiana where she raised four children. In 1972 she moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico and began a career in real estate. She became the first female real estate broker in this area and worked until she was 90. Irene was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Anderson of Georgia. She is survived by her daughter, Delores Anderson of New Mexico; son, Gene and wife, Sydney Anderson of Oklahoma; daughter, Shirley and husband, A.J. Wesselhoeft of Louisiana; and dear friend and caregiver, Mary Beth Correnti. She is also survived by her sister, Bernice Riley Hellman of Colorado. Irene has 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Friends may visit Irene on Thursday, August 22, 2013, 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., at FRENCH - Westside. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013, at Garnand Funeral Home in Elkhart, Kansas with interment to follow in the Elkhart Cemetery where many members of the family rest. The family extends abundant and heartfelt gratitude to Ambercare Hospice for their loving attendance during the last months of Irene's life.
