Inez Anaya Navarrette, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, New Mexico died on Friday January 10th, 2025 of natural causes. She was one of eleven children born to Manual Anaya and Antonia Carnero Anaya in Loving, New Mexico. She lived in Carlsbad, New Mexico for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Juanita Anaya Carnero, Lorenza Duran, Manuela Franco and her beloved granddaughter Monique Romney. She is survived by her husband of almost 70 years, Alvaro Rey Navarrette. Children; Theresa Navarrette-Nuanez and husband Clarence, Robert Navarrette and wife Diana, Tom Navarrette and wife Elaine, Rebecca Navarrette, Rick Navarrette and wife Sandra and Virginia Navarrette Dunn and husband Dave. Grandchildren; Michael Nuanez (Michelle), Elizabeth B (Ranjith Kizhakkedoth), Thomas Navarrette, Violet Palomino (Jesus), Rick Navarrette, Krista Navarrette, David Lee Dunn and Brittany Jackson (William). Great grandchildren: Esha Kizhakkedoth, Devram Kizhakkedoth, Natalia Hamm, Haven Navarrette and Liam Navarrette, Grayson Nuanez, Michael Nuanez, Hallah Nuanez and James Blakely Gabaldon. Siblings; Manual, Alvaro, Mario, Salvador and Edward Anaya and Geneva Rodriguez all in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and Oralia Anaya in Fairfield, California. Inez also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Inez will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Inez retired from Albuquerque Public Schools, working at Apache Elementary as a baker. She was well known for her baking skills, especially breads, brownies, cookies and cakes. She also made excellent tamales, almost grinding the corn for her masa, which was a lost art. Inez enjoyed outdoors activities, especially camping when her children were younger, traveling, the casino, embroidery and spending time with family. However, her grandchildren were the joy of her life, enjoying their activities when they were young, spending the holidays with them and in their life activities. Inez was a devout Catholic and was a member of Catholic Daughters for many years.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday January 22nd at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 811 Guaymas Pl. in Albuquerque. A viewing will be held at 10 am, rosary at 10:30, with Mass at 11. A reception will be held following the church services at FRENCH-Lomas. Interment will be held the following day at 11:00 am at Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
