Inez C. Maddalen was born on January 21, 1941 to Fernando and Trinidad Contreras in Dawson, NM. The family lived happily in Dawson until the death of her father in 1949, when they were forced to move to Albuquerque, NM. Inez was devoted to her mother, Tila, and while a teenager worked various jobs in order to help ends meet. Inez had a wonderful sense of humor and often brought the light side to difficult situations.
She graduated from Valley High School and studied at University of New Mexico. She had a long career with the Bank of New Mexico. Inez and her husband, Vincent, ran a successful real estate business for many years. They lived in the Huning Highland Historic Neighborhood and participated in the activities of the neighborhood association. She was also an active member of the Italian-American Club and participated in many of the events. Inez served as communion minister to homebound people of the St. Charles parish. Inez was always ready and available to help people in the church, family and friends with meals and support. Inez cared for her mother, sisters, and husband, while they were in the end stages of life. Inez was preceded in death by both her father and mother; her sister, Estella R. Cruz; her brother, Ralph Rodriguez; and sisters, Mary Abrams, and Alice Tafoya. She is survived by her sister, Elenor Harris of Hurst, TX; and many nieces and nephews, including, Sinaya Cruz (Jay), Gloria Cruz-Nighbert (Terry), Theresa Moursi (Mohammed), Ricardo I. Cruz (Andrew), Tamara (Trey) Kuykendall, Matt (Virginia) Nighbert, Milissa Lopez, Monica Martinez, Jose Martinez, Ralph Martinez, Phil Rodriguez, Leonard Rodriguez, Ralph Rodriguez, Jr., Logan Nighbert, Maya Leyba, Savanah Leyba, Michaela Lopez, Brian Vigil, Rudy Vigil, Storm Lopez, Faith Martinez, Elena Baker (Shawn), Carley Tate Kaba, Reece Westfall, Renee Westfall and godson, Josiah Lucero.
Services will be held July 19, 2022 at St. Charles Borromeo, 1818 Coal Pl NE. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be Trey Kurkendall, Sam Belieu, Pedro Arturo Dias Claro, Anthony Quintana, Mohamed Mourisi, Josiah Lucero, Logan Nighbert, and Jay Miles. The family wishes to invite friends and family to their house for a reception after the Mass on Tuesday at the Nighbert home, 8208 Sarah Ct NW (87114). Please call 505-898-3278 for directions
