Imogene R. "Gene" Hutchins, age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, passed away quietly at an Albuquerque assisted living home on April 8, 2016. She is survived by five children, James Hutchins and wife Debra of Albuquerque; Larry Hutchins and wife Kay of Colorado Springs; Steve Hutchins of Ada, Oklahoma; Dan Hutchins and wife Cathy of Cedar Grove, New Mexico; Debra Kincaid and husband Larry of Albuquerque; grandchildren Taylor Hutchins, Wesley Hutchins and Duncan Kincaid; and sisters Merlene White of Plano, Texas, and Linda Brown of Hamilton, Texas. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Morgan Hutchins; and her husband of 58 years, Charles R. "Bob" Hutchins.
Gene was born Imogene Schrank in 1929, in Hamilton, Texas. She received her degree in teacher education from Texas Tech University, where she also met and married Bob Hutchins on June 18, 1950. After graduation, she taught at several small West Texas schools before moving with her family to Albuquerque. She worked in the Albuquerque Public School system for many years, as an elementary school teacher and librarian. She loved visiting many and diverse places in New Mexico with her family. Some of her many joys and talents included playing the organ and the accordion, and dancing to German polkas. She was the consummate devoted wife, a beloved mother and grandmother, and her family will miss her dearly.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Chad's Episcopal Church, 7171 Tennyson St. NE, 87122.
