Ila Belle Farris

June 12, 1924 — August 3, 2017

Ila B. Farris passed peacefully in her sleep on August 3, 2017 and, as she stated, “I get to meet Jesus.” It was always her wish to go to sleep and not wake up. We thank God for granting her this last wish.

Ila was born on June 12, 1924 in Terre Haute, Illinois to Virgil and Jenny Spiker. As a young girl, her family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she later met her husband, Richard “Dick” Farris. Ila was a founding member of Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, where she served as church secretary until her retirement.

While Ila faced many tragedies in her life, she did her best to persevere. Ila loved to play Bingo and was able to continue, despite having diminished eyesight. “Ila was her name and BINGO was her game.”

Ila was preceded in death by her husband, Richard “Dick” Farris, and her daughter, Lynn Goad. Survivors include her sons, Rick (Karyl) and Rob (Adrienne); her grandchildren, Michelle, Tracy, Angela, Damien and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Kyle, Alyssa, Bailey, Zach, Jesse, Gabriel, Lily, Micah and Raif; great-great grandchildren, Brady and Charlie Jane; her sister, Mardell Rutledge (Lakewood, California) and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank Jeanikra Richards for the love and care she provided Ila these last few months.

Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE, in Albuquerque. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Animal Humane Society of New Mexico, www.animalhumanenm.org.
