On August 13, 2022, we said goodbye to our beloved Nachito. Although we grieve for his passing, we celebrate his inevitable reunion with the two loves of his life: his beautiful and devoted wife Eyen and his fun and spirited daughter Ana Maria.
Ignacio Manuel Grao was born January 18, 1936, in Santiago de Cuba, to Jose Grao Jover and Ana Esther Cano.
In the early sixties he immigrated to the United States from communist Cuba to New York where he met and married his soul mate. Shortly thereafter, Nacho became the father of a beautiful baby girl who was his pride and joy. These three instantly became inseparable! Nacho was an incredible father, provider, and adoring husband. Nacho's work ethic and efforts had no limits and soon he was able to move his family towards a better future.
He worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service for over 40 years.
Nacho had a natural talent as a jack of all trades. His abilities were varied, and he could just as easily put together a vehicle from start to finish, remodel a house from the ground up, or prepare the most beautiful, landscaped garden you could ever imagine. Throughout his life, he claimed that his biggest asset was always his better half who was his best friend and biggest fan. Nacho was the best supporting actor any woman could have ever asked for! He was always up for any challenge she would throw his way whether it was adopting another fur baby or moving to a different state...7...times!
Nacho was a quiet person, especially in contrast to Eyen who was NOT, and soon he developed the reputation for being a grouch, which he reveled in. His gruff personality and dry sense of humor intimidated many but drew closer many more. He was a faithful husband, a proud father, loving brother and son, a true and loyal friend, and everyone's grouchy Tío.
He was a man of his word, a good man, with a big fat heart! Those of us who were blessed with his presence are better because of him. He is endeared by all his friends and family and will forever be cherished.
