Huisuk Shires
Huisuk was born on 10 September 1955 in Seoul, Republic of Korea, the daughter of Chong, Ku Yon and Kim, Chang Ok. As a young child her family moved to Songtan-up, near Osan Air Base, South Korea where she grew up, attended primary, middle school, and high school.
After graduation, Huisuk took a job working as a dining room waitress in the Non-Commissioned Officers club on Osan Air Base where several years later she met her future husband, Daniel Shires.
Huisuk, Dan, and Mitchell moved from Korea to Hill Air Force Base, Utah where she attended high school and graduated in Ogden, Utah, leading to her being granted citizenship in the United Sates. The family then moved to Mountain Home AFB, Idaho; Callaway, Florida; and finally, to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they lived for the past 28 years.
In all of her stops, Huisuk was active in Korean churches in the community attending morning prayer, organizing and participating in weekly after church lunches, singing in the choirs, and supporting local food banks and other charities.
Huisuk is survived by her husband Daniel Shires, brother, Chong, Kwang Son, step sons Christopher Shires and Cory Shires and son Mitchell Shires and his wife Teesha Shires. She is also survived by her grandchildren Carter, Lyla, Isabel, and Tyler Shires. She was predeceased by her parents and grandson Timothy.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 10:30 am at French - Westside Chapel.
