Huguette Montano

February 28, 1930 — March 12, 2018

Huguette Montano started her life on February 28, 1930 in a shack by a river with no running water or electricity. She didn't make it through the third grade but she had a thirst for learning that didn't stop for 80+ years.

She watched the Germans roll through her village in 1940 and watched the Americans roll through in 1944. When she wanted to learn English she went to England and was a house keeper for a university English Professor until she could speak it well. She wanted to know about the Germans who invaded her country years ago and found them to be a kind and generous people but did not like their winters. She headed south till she ended up in Spain, she learned Spanish and brought our brother into the world.

In time she went back to Paris and began working with the Marshall plan to rebuild Europe because of all the languages she knew she was a translator. One day she and her friends went to a bar where she was immediately enchanted by a dark American soldier dancing all by himself with a spot light on him, her future husband. The military took our family all over the place including Lawton, OK where our sister joined us.

Throughout her life she faced any challenge thrown at her with determination and ferocity to overcome them. She taught us to work hard, be reliable, be honest, how to cook, clean, take care of ourselves and treat all people with respect and dignity.

She inspired us to never give up, face life with a quirky sense of humor no matter what. We will miss our long talks, our laughing at silly and serious things. We will miss telling you "I love you mom", but we will keep saying it anyway.

We hope to live up to your marvelous example, and if we manage to make it to 88, we hope to have set as good an example as you did.

Your loving children, Daniel, Lindi, and Phil.
