Huey Bennett Lewis

Huey B. Lewis, age 82, a resident of New Mexico since 1947 died Sunday, May 28, 2017.

He is survived by his children, Linda R. Herrera and husband, Richard of Los Chavez, NM, and Burl D. Lewis and wife, Barbara of Peralta, NM; grandchildren, Shane Lewis, Travis Lewis, and Shelby Herrera; brothers, Charles Lewis and wife, Mary Lou, and Murray Lewis; sisters, Minnie Anderson, and Mary Bassett and husband, Carroll; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and numerous other relatives and friends. Huey was preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Ava Lewis; brothers, William, Rolf, Ross, Albert, and Jim Lewis; and sister, Onealure Carroll.

He was born in 1935 in Hattiesburg, MS and moved to Albuquerque as a child. Huey graduated from Albuquerque High and was a life time Master Electrician, working for Ideal Cement Plant for several years and for the State Department of Corrections in Los Lunas, NM. He was a cowboy at heart, working in his early years on a ranch near Stanley, NM. Huey was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017, 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Huey's name to the American Diabetes Association.
