Doug Edgar, 81, passed away Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Born in northern Louisiana, Doug moved to Albuquerque more than 50 years ago and started his own construction company; Pogo Construction, after serving as a teacher at St. Pius X High School and Lincoln Jr. High School. He designed, constructed and/or remodeled many homes from Sandia Heights to the South Valley and beyond. His preference was traditional New Mexican architecture and materials and he was well known for his ability to match 19th and early 20th century adobe construction. He also loved classical music, woodworking, hiking in the mountains and exploring the many interesting and beautiful corners of New Mexico. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kathy Oakley; his children Paul Edgar (Dana) and Mary Zubiate (Jake); his brother Robert “Mike” Edgar (Madeline); and grandchildren Grace Edgar, Christian Edgar, Isaiah Zubiate, Gabriel Zubiate and Catherine Zubiate. He also leaves nieces Michelle Key (Doug), Melissa Kreutzian (Tom); nephews Christopher Edgar (Yuhan), Jonathan Edgar (Ines) and David Edgar (Magdelena); 11 great-nieces and nephews; and many loved family members and friends.
A Memorial Gathering for friends and family will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at Bethany Hall of Monte Vista Christian Church, 3501 Campus Blvd NE.. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to 1st Church of Christ, Scientist, 500 Richmond Place NE, ABQ 87106; the NM Symphonic Chorus, PO Box 7900, ABQ 87194; KHFM Classical Radio, 8009 Marble NE, ABQ 87110, or a charity of your choice.
