Howard S. Cottrell, age 90, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away June 20, 2021.
He was born March 2, 1931 in Capulin, NM, the son of Marion Madison and Florence A. Ratliff-Cottrell. After his graduation from Des Moines, NM high school, he attended the University of New Mexico obtaining both a B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. Howard served in the U.S. Navy four years during the Korean War, after which he held positions with several consulting engineering and architectural firms. In the early 1970s, he cofounded and worked for Cottrell, Vaughn and Associates, until becoming a shareholder and President of Design Professionals, Inc. where he served until his retirement in 2002.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; Birdie Fern Cottrell of Raton, NM, Mrytice Singer of Sewickley, PA, Winnie Bryant, of Pasadena, TX, and Pauline Blasingame, of El Paso, AR; three brothers, Willie Cottrell of Des Moines, NM, Paul Cottrell of North Port, FL, and Marion Cottrell of Albuquerque, NM. He is survived by Paula Cottrell, his wife of 60 years; three sons, Curtis Cottrell, Dale Cottrell, and Bill Cottrell, all of Albuquerque, NM; four grandsons, Cole Cottrell, Chase Cottrell, Kyle Cottrell, and Brayden Cottrell, all of Albuquerque, NM; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A private family service will be held for Howard later in the summer.
