Hoang N. Phung, 71, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2023. He was born on Friday, November 23, 1951 at Hue City, Vietnam.
Hoang was preceded in death by his parents, Phung Da Phuc and Ngo Thi Hiep. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lan Nguyen; brother, Phung Hung and his family; sister, Phung Dung and her family; brother, Phung Vinh and his family; brother, Phung Trinh and his family; brother, Phung Dat and his family; brother, Phung Minh and his family; brother, Phung Loc; son, Khoi Phung and his wife, Tuyet; his lovely adorable grandsons, Steve Phung and James Phung, who he took care very well to prepare each single meal for them since they were little.
He was known by his friends as a human calculator. He could answer a math problem faster than if using a calculator.
On the age of 18, he came to the United States to learn aircraft mechanics. After that he went back to Vietnam and joined the Army of the Republic of Vietnam, located in Bien Hoa city with the responsibility of fixing aircrafts. Life in the army influenced him to be on time and planned his whole life. It was very rare if he was late for any appointments or events.
When the war ended, he worked for Duc Thang shipyard for a couple years. After getting married, he opened a carpenter business to build wood products to sell.
By 1993, his beloved brother-in-law, Xuan Nguyen, sponsored his whole family to go to the United States, and resided in Albuquerque. He worked for a company as a carpenter for some years. He got a good job in Bell Group company as a mechanical assembler. By 60, he retired and spent all his time with his family. He touched his family's heart by his careness he gave to everyone.
Since he went back to the church, it was very rare that he missed any single daily masses that the church had and when he was not sick. Immaculate Heart Mary Shrine pilgrim was his favorite place to visit annually where he said God heard his prayers.
Hoang's family will host a Visitation on Thursday, April 13 and a Rosary on Friday, April 14, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH - Lomas. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, April 15, 2023, 9:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Lavang, 1015 Chelwood Park Blvd. NE.
