Hervie Payne

Hervie Payne, age 85, of Albuquerque went to be with the Lord on Monday, August 27, 2018  after a long illness.

Hervie was born on July 1, 1933 in Childress, TX to Hervie Payne and Lillian Beatrice who preceded him in death along with his brother, Doyle and sister, Laverne Davenport.  He is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaVon; four children, Janet Braithwaite (Gordon), Karen Payne, Mary Carrillo (Johnny), Wesley Payne (Teresa); grandchildren,  Mary Ellen Garcia and family, Kevin Braithwaite and family, Sara Rasband and family, Brent Braithwaite and family, Marvin Carrillo and son, Maria Payne and Michaela Payne; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; two brother-in-laws, Leon and Marvin Mills; and many family members of the heart.

He was raised in House, NM and graduated from House High School.  Hervie served during the Korean War in the US Army and was stationed in Japan as a Radar Operator.  He served his apprenticeship at ACF as a machinist and went on to work for them for 15 years.  He then worked for GE and retired in 1993.  He was a member of the Machinist Union Local 794 and was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ.  Hervie never met a stranger and saw good in everyone.  He never missed an opportunity to tell you how special you are and was known for his hugs.  He loved to bake and competed several times in the New Mexico State Fair cake competitions winning numerous ribbons.  Hervie enjoyed camping and spending time with his family.  Family always came first.  He would always remind us “look what God has made for us to enjoy.”

Many special thank you’s to Brookdale Home Care, Dr. Jensen, Dr. Fitzgerald, and Dr. Standoli, the entire 4th floor at Presbyterian Downtown including the doctors, the nurses, and all other staff as well as Vanessa, Elisa and Lani for their loving care.

Friends may visit Thursday, August 30, 2018, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.  Funeral Service will be held Friday, August 31, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at FRENCH – Lomas.  Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
