It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Herman Lanny Silva, who passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the age of 78.
Herman was born in Barstow, California, to Herman and Lou Silva, as the oldest of seven siblings: brothers Rudy, Rick, and Bobby and sisters Dorothy, Maryellen, Annlee, and Londie. Herman leaves behind his wife, Hannelore Silva, to whom he was married for 55 years; their daughter, Rachel Silva-Ohneiser; son-in-law Roland Ohneiser; and three grandchildren, Samantha, Roland, and Jessica. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Herman served in the Army from 1964 to 1967 in Europe, where he met his wife. He started his career as a welder, was many years a carpenter, and built many homes-including his own-in the East Mountains. Later he worked for the Albuquerque Public Schools, from which he retired at the age of 66.
Herman loved studying the Bible and telling people about God. He enjoyed reading books, camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He loved traveling to Europe, where he had a lot of family and friends.
We say farewell to a generous, loving, and gracious man. God be with you 'til we meet again!
A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at FRENCH-Wyoming. Herman will be laid to rest at Santa Fe National Cemetery at a later date.
