Henry "Kiki" Saavedra

March 6, 1936 — January 28, 2019

In Memoriam: Statement on Behalf of the Saavedra Family on the Passing of Rep. Henry “Kiki” Saavedra. The Saavedra family is heartbroken to announce the loss of Henry “Kiki” Saavedra who passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, at the age of 82. Kiki was larger than life to all of us, and a great friend to so many. He was a loving husband to Charissa for 23 years, and a man who greatly loved his family, including his five children, four step-daughters, 18 grandchildren, great-grandson, sister, Helen, nieces and nephews. Kiki struggled with Alzheimer’s disease for the past couple of years, but his lively spirit continued to shine through until the end, and we are grateful that he is now at peace. The memories he created for all of us and those who knew him are so much stronger than those he lost at the end and will be the pillars upon which celebrate this great man’s life.

The impact Kiki had on New Mexico is almost incalculable. He was known as a man of principles, integrity and old-school charm. Most of all, he was the one who brought everyone together. His loss will be felt throughout the state, but the positive lasting influence he has had will be felt throughout New Mexico long into the future. His public service, both in his 28 years with city of Albuquerque and 38 years in the New Mexico State Legislature, was grounded in his commitment to ensuring that his children and grandchildren saw a better tomorrow. He represented one of our poorest districts and fought for the well-being of those who most needed an advocate. Our family welcomes thoughts and prayers while we grieve together. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 8, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Sagebrush Church, 6440 Coors Blvd NW, with Ennichement to follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd NE. Memorial contributions may be made to...
