Helen Treat, age 91, mother of six and a pastor's wife, passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in Albuquerque, NM. Helen was a great pastor's wife, her soprano voice blended in the choirs at the many United Methodist churches in New Mexico and west Texas, where her husband, Carl Treat pastored. She left her mark on many of those communities leaving an adult child behind as they were assigned to a new church.
She was a Scout leader, cafeteria worker, florist, and working on a novel. Retiring in Anthony, NM on a small pecan farm, Helen became home base to her six children, nine grandchildren, and a dozen great-grandchildren.
Born in El Paso, she grew up in Mesilla Park, NM with her three Anderson siblings, graduated with a bachelor's degree from NMSU where she met her husband. She loved music, watching birds outside her window, tracing her family tree, traveling with her adult children, writing creatively, and eating New Mexican food with church friends and especially in-laws, TJ and Linda Treat.
She will be buried at the Masonic Cemetery in Las Cruces next to Carl, husband of over 50 years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 25th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Sierra Vista Community Church, 514 N. Telshor Blvd (behind T-Mobile store) Las Cruces, NM 88011. Family and friends are invited.
