Helen J. Kawka, 93, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years, Stephen Kawka, in 2000. She is survived by her son, Stanley Kawka and his wife, Nancy, and their two daughters, Jennifer and Christina. Helen will be interred with Steve at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. Helen was born on November 2, 1920 in New York City, NY. During WWII, Helen worked in Manhattan's iconic Woolworth building for the Kellex Corporation, which, as part of the Manhattan Project, was responsible for the design and operation of the gaseous diffusion facility in Oak Ridge, TN. Helen immensely enjoyed playing the piano by ear, having been self-taught.
