Helen Fox, age 84, beloved Mother, friend, and community member, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 27, 2021. She was born on July 17, 1936 in Port Arthur, TX, born to Paul and Eleanor Kelly. She is preceded in death by her son Jerry Fox Jr. and survived by her spouse Jerry Fox, daughter Kelly Fox (John Bratton), son Paul Fox (Leigh Blanquera) and her two grandchildren Grayson Bratton and Elizabeth Bratton.
Helen loved helping people, especially children. She started her career as a special education teacher and became the founding director of the APS Title I Homeless Project nearly 30 years ago. She with her staff served thousands of children using a holistic approach gathering support from the entire Albuquerque community to ensure students had their education, health, and sustenance needs met. Her work enabled thousands of homeless students to realize the dream of graduating high school with many going on to complete trade school or college. Helen, recognized both nationally and internationally for her work, was inducted into the Albuquerque Wall of Fame in 2016, and the APS Hall of Fame in 2020. Her friends and family will miss her eternal optimism, her genuine laugh, and her caring heart. Her love is a beacon of light for all who were blessed to know her.
