In the early morning hours of April 2, 2017, our sweet and tenacious girl, Heidi C. Hensley, unexpectedly drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Heidi was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico, on May 2, 1969. She is survived by her parents, Fred and Cindy Luetters; her brother, Steve Luetters; her sister, Debbie Luetters Siegel, and her children Jessica, Jacob, and Joey; her brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Michele Luetters, and their children Ryan, Megan, and Nathan; and her aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved her deeply. She is preceded in death by her best friend and husband of 18 years, Robert (Bob) E. Hensley.
From birth, Heidi endured an especially rocky path, strewn with countless medical procedures and painful complications. Still, Heidi inspired others with her steadfast determination and abiding faith. As a young child, she would chase new adventures with joy, clutching her crutches, pigtails flying, declaring "I can do it!" She grew up loving the water and the freedom she felt while swimming.
Heidi enjoyed photography and creating beautiful things. Like her Dad, she shared a love of travel and explored much of the world. She had the wonderful experience of living and attending school in Heidelberg, Germany. After visiting many countries, the secluded harbor of Portofino, Italy, became her favorite corner of the world.
She moved with her family to Albuquerque in 1975, graduated from Sandia High School, attended the University of New Mexico, and worked in Albuquerque at Sandia National Laboratories, and in Boise, Idaho, at Direct TV and Sykes Enterprises. She met Bob, the love of her life, while living in Boise. She thrived in the outdoors, especially when fishing, camping, and boating with her husband. Each time they moved, they transformed their home into a whimsical and peaceful haven.
Heidi had a brilliant mind and a quick wit. She genuinely cared about others and nurtured meaningful relationships. She was a bright light in the midst of her many storms, which became too much for her to bear. Her family finds comfort knowing that she is now free from pain as she dances in the glory of our Heavenly Father. We will miss her courageous spirit and radiant smile.
